Using /etc/sysconfig/static-routes on Linux

For Linux distributions that use /etc/sysconfig/static-routes file, place the following two lines in that file to tell the Linux kernel that (respectively)

• 169.254 is defined to be always on the local link, no matter what, and
• If there's some other address that you have no idea how to reach, then it's at least worth a try to see if that's reachable on the local link too

eth0 net 169.254.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 metric 99

eth0 net 0.0.0.0     netmask 0.0.0.0     metric 99
